Manchester United, along with Atletico Madrid, are prepared to increase Gleison Bremer’s salary to €10 million a year and pay €50 million to tempt Juventus into selling their star defender.

The Old Trafford side’s defence has been the subject of much criticism this season and it has become abundantly clear that INEOS will need to remedy the situation in the summer window.

This has resulted in the future of numerous centre backs being up in the air, as the likes of Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire could soon be playing their football away from the club.

Consequently, defenders such as Ronald Araujo, Jean-Clair Todibo and Jarrad Branthwaite have been heavily linked to a move to Old Trafford to replace these probable outgoings. One name that has also never been too far away from United’s is that of Brazilian Gleison Bremer.

The 27 year old is of interest to the Red Devils and it has been previously reported that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has no problems paying the Brazilian’s release clause, who is enjoying a sensational season in Serie A.

However, it soon became clear that Bremer’s release clause did not become active until next year and any side looking to sign the player would need to negotiate with the Old Lady this summer.

Calciomercato claim that both Manchester United and Atletico Madrid are ready to launch “a €50 million assault” for Bremer this upcoming window, hoping the fee to be sufficient to convince their Italian counterparts to do business.

Described as “one of the most successful purchases” at Juventus in many years and the best goal-scoring defender in Europe, Juventus are understandably reluctant to lose the player. The Italian paper give an example of this when they state, “with the goal scored against Roma, Bremer became the best central defender in Europe in terms of goals scored, two more than any other rival.”

However, financial problems mean that a sale of a top prospect is necessary and if they cannot sell Federico Chiesa, the club’s electric winger, then “proposals for the Brazilian defender will be taken into consideration”.

In this context, United are “ready to make a €50 million deal with a €10 million annual salary already offered to the player who wouldn’t say no.” The defender reportedly makes just over €9 million a year, so the contract offer from the Red Devils is a significant increase on his current deal.

However, the Italian outlet is quick to point out that €50 million will not be enough this summer to tempt them into a sale: “Juventus’ request is for at least €70 million, a figure that would allow for a large capital gain in the balance sheet.”

Without question, finding a long term partner for Lisandro Martinez seems to be the biggest focus of this summer for INEOS and it will be interesting to see if they decide that the goal scoring Brazilian is in fact the right man for the job.

Manchester United relinquished a three-goal lead against Championship side Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final and were on the verge of an embarrassing extra-time defeat but for VAR to save their blushes.

The Red Devils subsequently ended up prevailing 4-2 via penalty shoot-out to set up yet another Manchester Derby in the FA Cup final.

United were cruising in the game and it was manager Erik ten Hag’s substitutions which allowed The Sky Blues a route back into the game.

Kobbie Mainoo was controlling the midfield while Alejandro Garnacho was causing a lot of problems for the opposition defenders with his direct running.

All is not well between EtH and Garnacho

But the Dutchman felt the need to substitute both, and he brought on the hardly-used and rusty Christian Eriksen in the middle of the pitch, and the completely ineffective Antony up front.

Marcus Rashford was arguably one of the worst players out on the pitch but Garnacho was subbed off instead, almost like Ten Hag was sending out a statement to the academy graduate regarding his social media petulance after his substitution against Bournemouth in the last Premier League game.

The Argentine was far from impressed and fans were furious with the decision as well with many pundits blaming the Dutchman’s bizarre choices for causing the team’s embarrassing capitulation.

The Argentine international was shunted out to the right earlier on in the season after the manager had a falling out with Jadon Sancho and Antony failed even after repeated attempts.

Despite playing in a position which is outside his comfort zone, the FA Youth Cup winner with United has shown he can deliver under pressure and has notched nine goals and four assists this season.

Whether everything is alright between the pair behind-the-scenes remains unknown but Calciomercato have claimed Juventus are keenly watching the 19-year-old.

With United’s interest in Juventus defender Gleison Bremer increasing by the day, a possibility of a swap deal could emerge although it is wishful thinking on the Turin-based club’s part to think that United would sell their superstar-in-the-making.

“Juventus are on the hunt for wingers for next season, further confirmation of the probable arrival of Thiago Motta in place of Allegri. Giuntoli who, as demonstrated by the Alcaraz operation last January, is looking carefully at the English market.

Juve following Garnacho

“According to information gathered by Calciomercato.it, the Juventus football director is interested and has made some inquiries for Alejandro Garnacho of Manchester United.

“The English club, which recently passed into the hands of Ineos boss Ratcliffe, is also aiming to strengthen the defence. The big target is a central defender of international standing, with Juve’s Bremer at the top of the list.”

If a rift is developing and based on Sunday’s result, Ten Hag’s future remains far from certain and he certainly could leave the club sooner than Garnacho. There is no way INEOS agree to a deal for Bremer which would see Garnacho go the other way.

The report clearly mentions that the Serie A giants are keeping an eye on how the pair get along. The new co-owners should also try and minimise the friction between the Dutch manager and the prodigious talent as this will lead to mure rumours and will unsettle the squad even further.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has rubbished suggestions that Manchester United are plotting to use Mason Greenwood as a makeweight in a deal to land Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer.

United are planning for the recruitment of defensive reinforcements and have earmarked Bremer as a top candidate to arrive at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian has a release clause of between €60 and €70 million and a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United could potentially include Greenwood in their pursuit of the defender to motivate Juventus to lower their asking price for Bremer.

Greenwood’s future is one of the main topics Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS will undoubtedly need to resolve during the summer.

Several clubs are believed to be interested in adding the Englishman – who is currently on loan at La Liga side Getafe –  to their ranks and provide him with a new home. Juventus are admirers of Greenwood and are understood to have identified the forward as a player who could help buttress their attacking department.

Former United goalkeeper Sergio Romero explained that Greenwood would perfectly complement the likes of Federico Chiesa and Dusan Vlahovic, who are currently Juventus’ primary source of goals.

However, according to Romano, the Serie A giants are not as keen on Greenwood as has been claimed, meaning there is little to no chance they would accept him as part of a move that would see Bremer complete a switch to Old Trafford.

The Italian journalist said, “I don’t think Juventus will go for Mason Greenwood.”

“From what I hear, they have different options in those positions. It is not a priority for them.”

“At the moment I am not aware of any contact between Juventus and Greenwood.”

Romano added, “Man United’s interest in Gleison Bremer is not linked to Greenwood.”

It seems like the Red Devils may have to proceed with a straightforward push to secure Bremer’s services if they are indeed keen on him becoming the latest addition to Erik ten Hag’s backline.

Meanwhile, Greenwood who has plundered eight goals and five assists in 28 games for Getafe across all competitions, is unlikely to be short of suitors for his signature.

The post Manchester United must pursue Jean-Clair Todibo this summer appeared first on Man United News And Transfer News | The Peoples Person.

]]>

Manchester United in 2024 have holes all over the pitch and this was brutally shown in yesterday’s insipid draw against Brentford.

One area that is in desperate need of some attention from new owners INEOS is that of the centre back position.

There are numerous defenders at the club who have an incredibly foggy future such as Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof.

Not only that but no team in 2024 has conceded more shots on goal in the Premier League than Erik ten Hag’s side.

Naturally the Mancunian club have been linked to a plethora of defensive reinforcements and four of the most commonly rumoured centre back targets will be assessed here. The potential candidates to partner Lisandro Martinez in August are Jarrad Branthwaite, Gleison Bremer, Jean-Clair Todibo and Antonio Silva.

Playing Style

One thing that INEOS have been keen to stress is that gone are the days where the manager has total control over playing style.

Therefore, until a sporting director and the recruitment team is finalised, it is impossible to say what exactly that style will be. However, it is logical to assume that it will be a modern ball-playing style that the best sides in the Premier League implement.

Moreover, having Andre Onana between the sticks and Lisandro Martinez as the main centre back, ball playing proficiency should be a top priority for the defensive target.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was Branthwaite’s coach last year when he was at PSV Eindhoven described the 21 year old as “good on the ball, can play on the left or the right of centre-back because he is two-footed. He has height and speed, so he is very complete”.

However, nobody would sensibly suggest that the Carlisle man is as good on the ball as Martinez is. In addition as a left-footed centre back, it could be problematic to play him alongside United’s Argentine butcher.

Another candidate is that of Bremer, who like Branthwaite, his physical attributes stand out. The Brazilian is certainly good on the ball but it is his “defensive awareness and traits, such as tackling, interceptions, blocks, applying pressure and clearances” that make the 27 year old so sought after. He is also a right footer which would allow him to slot in next to Martinez.

Another potential defensive solution is Jean-Clair Todibo who has been described as ” balanced as any centre back is allowed to be, a key figure in build-up and in snuffing out threats”.

“In possession, he is as comfortable as any defender in the world, standing out with his ability to ball-carry and pass, to beat the press innovatively, to be the backbone of a possession-heavy side”.

What’s more his right footedness would allow him to play the right centre back role with comfort.

The final candidate is that of Antonio Silva from Benfica. The 20 year old has been a revelation for the Portuguese giants and has shown this season why he is one of the most talented young prospects in world football.

“Silva is a ball-playing defender. He likes to pass the ball from the back. The defender completes 8.23 long passes per 90, putting him in the 94 percentile” in the Portuguese league. However, he has more to his game than this. He is described as a “no nonsense defender” who loves a tackle and at 1.87 m has the physical prowess to deal with the Premier League. The Portuguese certainly seems alongside, Todibo, to be the most balanced of the four, as well as being most comfortable on his right foot.

Verdict: Silva and Todibo

Price

The Red Devils, like all of English football teams nowadays live in a world of financial constraint due to Profit and Sustainability rules.

As mentioned earlier, United also have a multitude of issues to try and solve in this summer’s transfer window, so not all the budget can go on a centre back and this is where it gets complicated.

Silva looks a great potential buy but it will be incredibly expensive. Benfica sell but they sell at their price and with a contract until 2027, they have no pressure to release their prized asset. It has been relayed that United are “best prepared” to sign the Portugal international but with a release clause of €100m it could be incredibly expensive to prise the starlet away from Lisbon.

Branthwaite will also cost a pretty penny. It has been reported that any team wanting to steal away the England defender may need to be pay an astronomical £80 million.

Bremer will be cheaper, as he reportedly has a pact that he can leave for €60-70m this summer but it is still quite an outlay.

Todibo on the other hand seems to have a much more reasonable fee. Fabrizio Romano has recently revealed that that Nice will let the player leave for around £40m and with his parent club also being owned by INEOS, this would surely grease the wheels of any deal.

Verdict: Todibo

Age and Experience

Bremer is the clear winner in terms of experience at being 27 years old, however, also goes against INEOS’ reported new ethos of buying players before they become established experienced ones.

Branthwaite and Silva certainly fit this model much better but at 21 and 20 respectively, but they are both incredibly inexperienced and there is still a big question mark in regard to their future trajectory as players.

At 24 years old, Todibo once again, seems the most balanced option. He is young enough to keep progressing and be hungry enough to step up from Nice to United but has also had more than a couple of seasons of topflight football.

One charge against the Frenchman could be that he has only played in Ligue 1 but there is a strong history of French-based players adapting to the Premier League effectively.

Verdict: Todibo

All in all, Nice’s French centre back seems the most sensible deal for INEOS to pursue. They know the player well and he is a balanced, ball playing, modern centre back. At 24 years old and a likely price tag of £40m, he is of the right age and certainly has an attractive price tag for a club looking to fix numerous positions under PSR restrictions.

Manchester United target, Gleison Bremer, does not have an active release clause until next summer, but does have a verbal pact with Juventus.

The Brazilian has been heavily linked to United in 2024 as the Red Devils aim to bolster their defensive department in the summer.

In fact, it has even been reported by some that the 27 year old is INEOS’ first choice option to recruit due to Dan Ashworth’s high opinion of the player.

Bremer was also said to have an attractive release clause of somewhere in the region of £43 million to £50 million for this summer.

However, transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano has questioned this information on two accounts.

The Italian journalist commented on X (formerly twitter) that, “the formal release clause to pay and sign Gleison Bremer will be valid starting from summer 2025”.

Furthermore, Romano claims that for this upcoming window, “there’s a verbal pact to consider bids” of a similar amount but at the end of the day, the final call rests with Juventus.

“The amount of the clause is variable: €60/70m” (£51m-59.7m). Therefore, more expensive than was previously stated.

Romano’s information is clearly different from what has been commonly reported by most journalists covering the story but with his deep connections in Italian football, it would take a brave person to deny the veracity of his statements.

Interestingly, there was a report yesterday that suggested that Bremer was slipping down United’s priority list as Juventus will not accept anything as low as £49.7m and in fact, value the player at closer to £69million.

As a result, it was suggested that Jarrad Branthwaite was in fact INEOS’ priority and not the Brazilian.

However, United may be prepared to find a way to lower Bremer’s fee by dangling the carrot of Mason Greenwood to see if the Old Lady bite, as they harbour an interest in the United forward.

It must also be stated that Branthwaite will command a much higher fee than Bremer and it has even been stated that any team wanting to prise away the English defender may need to pay an eye-watering £100m.

What is clear is that there is still a lot left to tell in this tale as nobody seems one hundred percent sure of the finer points of Bremer’s situation. The story will surely begin to unravel itself over the coming months when the transfer window bursts into life at the season’s end.

Manchester United are eyeing defensive reinforcements come the end of the season with the futures of several centre-backs currently up in the air.

Raphael Varane’s deal ends in June as does Jonny Evans’ contract, while both Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof could be sold as part of a summer clearout.

United’s defensive displays this season have been poor to say the least, with the club conceding three or more goals 12 times already this term, with five of them coming at Old Trafford.

Finding a long-term partner for Lisandro Martinez is the aim for INEOS and the club have been linked with a move for Jean-Clair Todibo, Antonio Silva and Jarrad Branthwaite just to name a few.

Bremer chase

One name that is gaining traction in recent days is that of Juventus star Gleison Bremer who reportedly has a release clause in between €60 and €70 million.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly prepared to trigger the release clause but the club are also mulling over another creative solution.

The Peoples Person recently reported that the Red Devils could leverage the Turin club’s interest in Mason Greenwood to strike a much cheaper deal.

But according to journalist Alfredo Pedulla, triggering the release clause will not be the be-all and end-all as the Brazilian will also have a say in his final destination.

And currently, the 27-year-old is more inclined towards landing up at Liverpool or Manchester City in the Premier League rather than at Old Trafford.

Bremer could land up at Liverpool or City

“There are clubs (for example Manchester United) who have been interested for some time, but the final say belongs to Bremer who is currently more oriented towards joining Real Madrid, Manchester City or Liverpool.”

This will be a big blow for United who could do with someone of his ilk, with the Brazil international being named in the Serie A team of the season for the last two years in a row.

Losing him to the Merseysiders or to the noisy neighbours will not be the best look for INEOS in their maiden transfer window but both teams are guaranteed to play in the Champions League next season and have a far better shot at winning trophies at least in the short-term.

Bremer has helped keep 15 clean sheets in 29 appearances for the Old Lady who have conceded the second-lowest number of goals this season in the Italian top flight.

Manchester United are considering using Mason Greenwood as a makeweight in their pursuit of Juventus defender Gleison Bremer.

A report by La Gazzetta dello Sport, an Italian outlet, reveals Old Trafford officials have made an approach to intermediaries over a potential deal for the 27-year-old Brazilian centre back.

Erik ten Hag’s side have struggled enormously this season with injuries; none more so than in central defence.

Lisandro Martinez has spent the majority of the year on the side line with two separate injuries, while Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, and Victor Lindelof have all joined the Argentine at various points also.

The long-term future of these three defenders is also in question with Varane’s contract set to expire at the end of the season and reports linking Maguire and Lindelöf with moves away from Old Trafford. And while Martinez’s place as an undisputed starter is assured, the former Ajax man remains vulnerable in the air without a capable partner.

As such, a new centre, who is a strong aerially and physically, will be a priority for United this summer; and Bremer fits the bill perfectly.

The Brazilian international ranks in the 87th percentile for successful aerial duels and is renowned in Serie A as a dominant defensive force. He breaks the mould from the profile of modern defenders who prioritise technique over physicality; more a throwback to the type of centre back who used to dominate European football in the early 2000s.

Bremer’s contract contains a release clause – believed to be somewhere in the region of £43 million to £50 million – and is reported to be open to a move to the Premier League. A transfer should, therefore, prove relatively simple, if United are willing to pay the required price to trigger it.

However, Juventus themselves retain an interest in a United player – Mason Greenwood – which could play a crucial role in any potential deal.

As explain in greater detail here, the Italian club have identified the 22-year-old forward, currently on loan at Getafe, as a player who could help buttress their forward line. Indeed, former Serie A and United goalkeeper, Sergio Romero, believes Greenwood would be the perfect compliment to Federico Chiesa and Dusan Vlahovic – Juventus’ current striker pairing.

The report by La Gazetta dello Sport reveals United are aware of this interest and, accordingly, “Greenwood…could be included in the deal” for Bremer, as a potential makeweight to lower Juventus’ asking price.

Given there are a host of other positions Old Trafford officials will be keen to upgrade in Ten Hag’s squad this summer, being able to secure a much-needed central defender at a reduced price, courtesy of a forward who will not play for United again, would be a significant boost to these plans.

The post Gleison Bremer is not as high a priority for Manchester United as Jarrad Branthwaite appeared first on Man United News And Transfer News | The Peoples Person.

]]>

Despite a lot of noise to the contrary, Juventus’ Gleison Bremer is not high up the list of Manchester United’s priority centre backs this summer.

It is as clear as day that United and INEOS will aim to bolster the central defensive department this upcoming window as uncertainty surrounds many of United’s defenders.

In fact, one could argue that not even Lisandro Martinez is entirely safe due to the player’s ongoing injury struggles over the last year.

The futures of Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans are also very much up in the air.

Therefore, one name that has been linked regularly to United since the turn of the new year has been Gleison Bremer.

There have been many reports suggesting that the Red Devils are very keen to bring him to Old Trafford this summer as it was relayed here that the centre back is United’s number one target this summer.

What’s more, it was even reported yesterday that Sir Jim Ratcliffe would have no issue paying the player’s €58 million (£49.7m) release clause, such is INEOS’ keenness to bring the player in.

It has also been suggested that one of the main reasons behind United’s interest in the player is heavily connected to potentially new sporting director, Dan Ashworth, who is said to be a big fan of the player.

However, GIVEMESPORT takes a different angle to the avalanche of reports claiming that Bremer is of huge interest to the Old Trafford side.

The outlet reports, “Manchester United are not prioritising a summer move for Juventus star Gleison Bremer as key figures at Old Trafford have already made more progress in their bid to land alternative defensive targets ahead of the transfer window reopening, sources have revealed”.

“Manchester United have not pinpointed Bremer as one of their first-choice targets despite being in the hunt for fresh options at the heart of their backline”.

They also state that Juventus will not accept anything as low as £49.7m and in fact, value the player at closer to £69million.

Furthermore, Bremer also has a long term deal at Juventus which would further complicate matters.

“Although GIVEMESPORT sources have been informed that it would not be impossible for Manchester United to turn their attentions towards the 27-year-old if his services are offered to them through agents, no progress over a potential deal has been made at this stage and speculation over his future are predominantly coming from Italy”.

It is suggested that one of those targets who is more advanced than Bremer is that of Jarrad Branthwaite.

The Everton defender is the one player that has been linked even more to the club than the Brazil international as of late.

The website asserts, “Jarrad Branthwaite has been earmarked as a standout defensive target by Manchester United scouts after Ten Hag was keen to gain information on centre-backs currently in the Premier League, and there is confidence that the Everton man will become available regardless of whether his current employers stave off relegation to the Championship”.

It had been reported since February that despite interest from numerous clubs, United still lead the way for the 21 year old and the profile of the player very much fits into INEOS’ desire to sign the next big things, as many tip the centre back to reach the very top.

At 21 years old, there is much more room to develop than the 27 year old Bremer and the Englishman has shown he can handle the Premier League as he has performed admirably in his first full season playing in the division.

It had even been mentioned that United may look to bring in the two centre backs but with the high prices being mentioned for both and many holes to fix this summer in the squad it would seem it will be a choice between these two or possibly another central defender such as Jean-Clair Todibo or Marc Guehi.

Manchester United’s defence will see a revolution this summer which is an open secret.

Lisandro Martinez’s injury coupled with the on-and-off availability of Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane has laid bare the problems at Old Trafford.

Consequently, a centre-back has been made the top target for United in the summer.

That player is Juventus’ Gleison Bremer, the 27-year-old Brazilian who has shot to the top of United’s summer wishlist.

Now, Italian outlet Calciomercato reports that the appreciation for the player comes all the way from the top at the club.

The report states that Sir Jim Ratcliffe will have “no problems” paying the full release clause of the player, reportedly set at €58 million.

Bremer is expected to be at the centre of a tug-of-war in the summer with other English sides also interested in the player.

Therefore, United are hoping to steal a march on their rivals by intensifying contact in the last few days while making their admiration for him clear with this stance.

Bremer has played 28 league games this season and has impressed with his overall ability whether it is old-school defending or modern centre-back play with the ball.

His availability and good injury record- he has missed only 15 games in the last four seasons combined- make him an ideal candidate to shore up an ailing United defence.

Due to his right-footedness, he would also make an ideal partner for Lisandro Martinez if the club aims to start the transition away from Raphael Varane.

Aged 27, his best years are ahead of him and as he brings bonafide top-five league experience alongside some international pedigree, the release clause is a huge bargain.

Now it is up to the club to convince the player of their project the first steps to which have already been taken by making him their top target and confirming their intentions of triggering the clause.

Manchester United have reportedly identified their number one target for the upcoming summer transfer window.

With the end of the season fast approaching, speculation has increased regarding Man United’s summer transfer strategy, particularly as Financial Fair Play threatens to restrict the club’s budget.

Still, the club continues to be linked with a multitude of players in various positions, including the likes of Lille striker Jonathan David, Benfica midfielder Joao Neves, and Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarães.

While there appear to be potential transfers across the pitch, one area where United appear to be desperately in need of reinforcements is at centre-back.

Lisandro Martinez is still recovering from his second injury this season, while Harry Maguire faced some time on the sidelines due to an injury setback of his own. Victor Lindelof, while available, has struggled to break into Erik ten Hag’s starting 11.

Although Jonny Evans and the injury-prone Raphael Varane are currently fit, both are ageing, with United desperately short of young talent who could strengthen the team’s defence over the long term.

While Jean-Clair Todibo and Jarrad Branthwaite are linked with a move to Old Trafford, another defender has emerged as the club’s priority signing this summer.

Corriere dello Sport reported yesterday that United are preparing to make an offer for Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer.

The Sun claimed that the Brazilian is United’s “number one transfer target”, given that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is believed to prefer signing younger players as opposed to ageing stars such as Casemiro and Raphael Varane.

Although the 27-year-old renewed his contract with Juventus until 2028, the British newspaper claimed that Bremer’s contract includes a £43 million (€50 million) release clause.

Should United choose to trigger Bremer’s release clause, he would prove to be a significantly cheaper option than other centre-backs that United have been linked with.

Nice are reportedly seeking between €55 million and €60 million for Jean-Clair Todibo, while Everton are reportedly looking for a fee of £80 million for Branthwaite.

Ultimately, whether United choose to make a move for Bremer or not, signing a younger centre-back this summer is crucial, particularly if the team does not want to get caught off guard as age catches up to the team’s current defensive options.
